- FAQ -
Q1. What is 52100 bearing steel?
52100 is a high-carbon chromium alloy steel (UNS G52986) widely used for anti-friction bearings. It contains approximately 1.0% carbon and 1.5% chromium, providing through-hardening capability and excellent wear resistance after quenching and tempering.
Q2. What standards does your 52100 round bar comply with?
Our 52100 bearing steel round bar is manufactured and tested in accordance with ASTM A295 (Standard Specification for High-Carbon Anti-Friction Bearing Steel) and SAE J403 chemical composition requirements. Full MTC is provided with every shipment.
Q3. What sizes and finishes are available?
We supply 52100 round bars ranging from 6mm to 300mm in diameter. Standard finishes include hot-rolled, forged, peeled (turned), and precision ground. Cut-to-length service is available per customer specification.
Q4. What are typical applications of 52100 bearing steel?
52100 is primarily used for ball and roller bearing components — bearing balls, tapered rollers, cylindrical rollers, inner and outer races, and bearing rings. It also finds use in high-wear machine parts, tooling, bushings and precision shafts requiring high hardness and fatigue resistance.
Q5. What is the typical hardness of 52100 after heat treatment?
After proper quenching and low-temperature tempering, 52100 achieves a surface hardness of approximately 60–65 HRC, with a uniform through-hardened microstructure ideal for rolling contact fatigue applications.
